Versions reimagines the popular Jamaican musical tradition of “versioning” to inspire and raise youth voices in a dialogue about cultural identity, race and discrimination
Powered by the award-winning not-for-profit Darkspark, VERSIONS provides a platform for racialized youth around the world to share their voices through musical storytelling.
Equally important, it gives them the tools to confront and explore systemic racism, connect and collaborate with social justice-minded peers and create social impact projects in their communities to affect positive change. Call it pop culture with purpose.
Beginning with the launch of a Fellowship Program and culminating with a global Call-to-Action, VERSIONS believes that the global challenges that divide us will be dismantled by inspired youth.
What is Versioning?
of youth participants report now having the confidence and tools necessary to address racism, discrimination, colonialism and its impacts through their voice, leadership abilities, and music as a result of their Fellowship experience.

My life is different than before
The VERSIONS Fellowship empowered and equipped me with the tools I needed to create and fulfill a community project. I’ve worked alongside organizations that made it feel like I required huge entities to create any sort of social programming. Now I understand I don’t need a huge org. I just need myself and community members/stakeholders…That has changed my life.
