Khan Khalii
Pretoria, South Africa
Nontokozo Qhobosheane, known professionally as Khan Khalii, is a singer-songwriter and music producer. Khan harnesses music to articulate her life experiences and narrate stories shared by loved ones.
Born in Tongaat, KwaZulu Natal and raised in Pretoria, Khan draws most of her musical inspiration and sense of identity from both of these areas. From performing her most popular songs (“Isono,” “Sunshine,” and “Let it flow”) at the 2021 Basha Uhuru festival, to landing a mixtape of the year nomination for Pittsville: Lost In The Trap and being a finalist in the 2021 Bridge Fire Talent accelerator program, the 24-year-old’s powerful vocals often steal the show.
In an effort to reconnect with herself and her ancestral roots, Khan recently began experimenting with her music. She fused alternative RnB, hip hop, and afro soul in her Gods Never Die Vol. 1 project. The music in this project uses synths and pads to represent a dreamscape while grounding the sound with African drums and rhythms. Inspired by releasing the past and welcoming new adventures, the track “Sunshine” struck a chord with audiences and was used as the 2022 Fakugesi Festival for Digital Creativity theme song to represent peace and transformation. Pittsville: Lost In The Trap and Gods Never Die Vol. 1 are available on all digital platforms.
